Orlando, Fla. - The 2001 Atlantic Coast Conference Men's Tennis Championship began with the No. 7 seeded Clemson Tigers defeating the No. 8 seeded NC State Wolfpack 4-0 at the Lake Cane Tennis Center in Orlando, Fla.

The Tigers won the doubles point as Josh Goffi and Marko Gojanovic downed NC State No. 2 doubles team of Brad Kilgore and Jon Davis 8-5 and at No. 3 doubles Eric Cohn and Lee Taylor Walker of Clemson defeated Ryan Boward and Matt Lucas 8-5.

In singles action, Darren Knight, Micah Thompson and Lee Taylor Walker were all victorious for the Tigers with Thompson clinching the match with a 6-2, 4-6, 6-3 victory over NC State's Ryan Boward at the No. 5 singles slot.

Clemson improves its record to 6-19 while NC State drops to 6-19. The Tigers will face the No. 2 seeded North Carolina Tar Heels on Friday, April 20 at 12:00 noon.
