No. 19 Tar Heels Defeat No. 35 Clemson 6-1 In Men's Tennis

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. -- North Carolina's men's tennis team swept all six singles matches Sunday to defeat Clemson 6-1 at the Cone-Kenfield Tennis Center. The #19 Tar Heels improved to 14-2 overall on the season and 5-0 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The #35 Tigers lost their third match in a row and fell below the .500 mark at 14-15. Clemson is now 4-3 in the ACC. After losing the doubles point to the Tigers, UNC rebounded to sweep the singles, winning four of the six matches in three sets. At #1 singles, 41st-ranked Tripp Phillips of UNC rallied past 37th-rated Josh Goffi of Clemson 1-6, 6-4, 6-2. At #2 singles, Assaf Drori of UNC upset 48th-ranked Tomasz Boniecki of Clemson 6-3, 6-1. In doubles, the 11th-ranked Clemson duo of Goffi and Darren Knight defeated Greg Archer and Assaf Drori 8-4. Sandon Barth and Eric Cohn picked up the other doubles win for the Tigers while playing in the #3 position. Clemson's next match will be at home on Friday, April 14 at 2:00 against the Miami Hurricanes.
