Clemson, SC -- The Clemson Men's Tennis team notched a victory over its highest ranked opponent as the Tigers defeated 29th-ranked Florida State 4-3 on Friday evening at Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.

Clemson improves to 18-10 on the season, 2-4 in the Atlantic Coast Conference. Florida State falls to 10-8 overall and 3-3 in the ACC. Clemson opened the match by taking the doubles point. Florida State took the early lead as the 41st-ranked team of Jeff Grolismond and Chris Westerhof defeated Nathan Thompson and Jarmaine Jenkins at the top doubles match. Brett Twente and Ryan Young evened the score at one match apiece as they downed Joe Bassett and Joao Paolo Bounassar 8-4 at the number three position. The Tigers were able to take the doubles point as Damiisa Robinson and John Boetsch edged Mat Cloer and Chip Webb 8-6 at number two doubles.

In singles action, Clemson won three matches to propel it to the victory. Freshmen Ryan Young and Clement Reix both won their matches in straight sets over Bounassar and Bassett respectively. Thompson fell to reigning ACC Player of the Year Cloer at the number one singles match. Goran Sterijovski and Robinson both overcame first-set deficits before falling in the third set at the numbers two and four matches. With the score tied at 3-3, Jarmaine Jenkins was able to earn the match clinching victory 7-5, 7-6 (4) over Grolismond at the number three position.

Clemson improves to 18-10 on the season, 2-4 in the ACC. The Tigers return to action on Sunday afternoon as they travel to Raleigh, NC to face North Carolina State.
