South Carolina Downs Clemson

COLUMBIA, SC - South Carolina won five of the six singles matches as the 51st-ranked Gamecocks defeated 33rd-ranked Clemson 5-2 in a men's intercollegiate tennis match Wednesday afternoon at Columbia, SC. South Carolina improves its record to 5-3 overall, while Clemson falls to 3-6 on the season.
Clemson got off to a quick start against the Gamecocks by winning all three doubles matches and capturing the doubles point. Clemson's Josh Goffi and Marko Gojanovic, the 46th-ranked doubles team in the nation, defeated South Carolina's David Nelson and Marcus Westman 8-5 at the number-one position. At number-two doubles, Darren Knight and Eric Cohn of Clemson defeated South Carolina's pair of Guilluame Legat and Seth Rose 9-8. The win was the eighth in a row for the team of Knight and Cohn and improved their doubles record to 8-1 on the season. True freshman Lee Taylor Walker and sophomore Micah Thompson of Clemson defeated Rodrigo Pacheco and Carl Wermee of South Carolina 8-4 in the number-three doubles slot.
In singles, the 62nd-ranked Legat upset 34th-ranked Goffi of Clemson in straight sets 6-1, 6-3. Brad Emendorfer, while playing number-four singles, picked up the lone singles win for the Tigers by defeating the Gamecock's Wermee 7-5, 6-3. The win marked the third singles win in a row for Emendorfer.
Clemson's next action will be on March 13 as the Tigers play host to eighth-ranked Georgia at 2:30 PM at the Hoke Sloan Tennis Center.
