Men's Soccer Defeated by Wake Forest In Overtime

CLEMSON, S.C.- Freshman forward Jaron Barbee scored the game-winning goal 7:59 into overtime to lift visiting Wake Forest over No. 13 Clemson, 3-2, in both team's regular season ACC finale. A smothering Deacon defense held Clemson to just one shot on goal in the first half. Wake (9-9, 2-4 ACC) took a 1-0 lead just 5:57 into the match as Ihor Dotsenko headed a Brock Hilpert throw-in into the cage. The Tigers (9-5-3, 2-3-1) rallied in the second half, however, tying the game on a Jody DeBruin goal from Tony Williams at 61:09. Barbee then netted his third game-winner of the season at 97:59, scoring off assists from Dotsenko and Kyle Bachmeier.

With the win, Wake locked up the No. 6 seed in the ACC Tournament and will face third-seeded NC State in the first round this Thursday at 5:30 p.m. at the Disney Soccer Stadium in Orlando, FL. The Deacs defeated then-No. 9 NC State 4-0 earlier this season. Clemson earned the fifth seed in the ACC Tournament and will face fourth-seeded Maryland at 8 p.m. Thursday, while No. 2 seed Virginia will face No. 7 North Carolina in the first game at 3 p.m.. Top-seeded Duke earned a first round bye and will meet the Clemson-Maryland winner in the semifinals on Friday.
