Clemson Upsets Portland 3-0

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Jody DeBruin scored two goals in leading unranked Clemson to a 3-0 upset win over ninth-ranked Portland in the championship game of the 22nd annual Clemson Men's Invitational at Riggs Field Sunday afternoon.

Clemson is now 5-4-1 on the year while Portland falls to 7-2-1 this season. Portland is ranked ninth by Soccer America and 17th in the coaches poll.

Jeff Bilyk opened the scoring for the Tigers at the 36:36 mark. Wojciech Krakowiak fed Bilyk at the top of the box. Bilyk turned and scored from 18 yards out.

DeBruin put the Tigers ahead 2-0 at the 41:51 point into the game. Tony Williams and Jeremy Iwaszkowiec were credited with the assists.

DeBruin scored the games third goal at the 56:34 mark. Tony Williams sent a long pass from the middle to Bob Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh touched a pass to DeBruin who scored from 15 yards out in the middle.

DeBruin has four goals and four assists on the season.

The Tigers will play host to Georgia Southern Wednesday night at 7:00 p.m. On Sunday, Clemson will play host to South Carolina at 2:00 p.m.

College Of Charleston Defeats Florida Atlantic 4-3

CLEMSON, S.C. -- Vladmir Suite scored two goals including the game winner in leading the College of Charleston to a 4-3 overtime win over Florida Atlantic in the consolation game of the 22nd annual Clemson Mens Soccer Invitational at Riggs Field Sunday afternoon.

College of Charleston improves its record to 2-7 overall while Florida Atlantic falls to 4-6 this season.

Florida Atlantic took a commanding 2-0 lead early in the first half behind goal from Andreas Jansson and Webbert Innocent.

However the College of Charleston tied the score before intermission wth a penalty kick by Christian Michner and a goal by Chris Imfeld.

The Cougars took the lead at the 77:13 mark as Suite scored from 22 yards out. Florida Atlantic evened the tally three minutes later as Thomas Nygards dribbled into the box and scored from 12 yards out.

The game went into sudden-death overtime. Chris Imfeld broke Suite away from a defender with a pass from the middle creating a one-on-one situation with the Florida Atlantic goalkeeper Andreas Kendahl. Suite put the game winner away with a 12-yard diagonal shot.
