Clemson Defeats South Carolina

Tigers Advance to the NCAA Tournament's Final Eight

John Wilson notched an assist in Sunday's victory.

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- Bob Cavanaugh scored the game's only goal in leading Clemson to a 1-0 overtime win over South Carolina in the NCAA Men's Soccer Tournament's Round of 16 at Columbia, SC Sunday afternoon.

Cavanaugh scored his goal in the second period of the first overtime at the 105:30 point into the match. John Wilson crossed the ball to the middle of the box. The Tigers' Jody DeBruin let the ball pass through to Cavanaugh. Cavanaugh fired a 12-yard diagonal shot to the left post for his fourth goal of the season. Wilson now has seven assists this year.
