CARY, N.C.-Dimelon Westfield scored two goals and Steven Rhyne scored the game-winner in leading sixth-seeded Clemson to a 3-2 win over third-seeded North Carolina in the first round of the ACC Tournament at the SAS Soccer Complex at Cary, NC Thursday night. The game's five goals were all scored in the first half.

Clemson improves to 12-3-3 overall, while North Carolina falls to 13-7-1 this season. The Tigers will play second-seeded Maryland Friday night at 8:00 p.m. Clemson is ranked 12th by Soccer America and 21st by the NSCAA. The Tigers are also ranked 12th by soccertimes.com.

Clemson capitalized immediately on an unassisted goal by Dimelon Westfield at the 2:17 mark. North Carolina responded shortly after with an unassisted goal from David Testo at the 7:40 mark.

The teams continued to trade goals as Westfield scored his second goal of the night unassisted at the 18:59 mark only to be countered by David Testo on an assist by Ray Fumo. The Tigers were finally able to separate themselves on an unassisted goal scored by Steven Rhyne at the 40:55 mark.
