CLEMSON, SC-- Tommy Drake scored one goal and assisted on the other in leading Clemson to a 2-1 win over 14th-ranked Furman in a men's intercollegiate soccer match at Clemson, SC Wednesday night.

With the win, Clemson improves to 6-7-1 overall, while Furman falls to 12-2 this season.Furman is ranked 14th in the NSCAA poll and 22nd by Soccer America.

Clemson scored early in the match during the fifth minute. Nathan Thornton scored his fourth goal of the year with assists by Drake and Eric Cava.

The Tigers went up 2-0 when Drake converted on a penalty kick at the 34:18 mark.

Furman came within one goal of the lead in the 66th minute of play as Shea Salinas scored his third goal of the year with an assist by Jordan Howard.

The win tonight was Clemson Head Coach Trevor Adair's 200th career win. He coached four years at Brown in 1991-1994 before his arrival at Clemson in 1995. Adair is in his 13th season at Clemson. In his 17th year as a head coach, Adair now has a 200-102-29 career record.

"I am real proud of the guys," said Adair. "This was another quality win over a ranked opponent. (Clemson defeated fourth-ranked Virginia last Friday night). It was a hard fought match--a real tough match. We've gained confidence as the year moves on. Our younger players are stepping up. I am so happy for our team."

Clemson will play at N.C. State Sunday afternoon in the Tigers' next action.
