Clemson, SC -- Clemson is ranked seventh in the final Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Association poll for the fall season. Clemson, who ranked between six and eight in the four fall polls, is the highest ranked team from the ACC.
Georgia is listed first with 23 first-place votes and 599 poll points, while Oklahoma State is ranked second. Alabama is third followed by Southern California, Stanford and Illinois. The Tigers are seventh, followed by Indiana, Arkansas and Arizona State. Other ACC teams in the rankings are Georgia Tech (11), NC State (23) and Florida State (24).
Clemson completed the fall with third, fourth, sixth and seventh-place finishes in its four fall events. The Tigers played in competitive fields and had a 44-16-2 record in head to head competition in the four tournaments combined.
Kyle Stanley had a 71.42 stroke average and three top 10 finishes in the fall to lead the way. He won the Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA in September and is ranked eighth in the nation among college players. He is fourth in the world in the latest Golfweek Amateur rankings. Stanley will play in an All-America tournament in El Paso, TX the week prior to Thanksgiving.
David May is Clemson's second ranked golfer with a 73.25 stroke average for four events. May had a hird-place finish at The Brickyard in October to help Clemson to a third-place team finish. May is ranked 57th in the nation according to the Golfweek/Sagarin college rankings.
Clemson will open its spring schedule February 27 in Rio Mar County Club in Rio Mar, Puerto Rico when it competes in the Puerto Rico Classic.
