Clemson, SC -- Sixth ranked Clemson will be one of 15 teams competing at The Brickyard collegiate golf tournament in Macon, GA this weekend. The 54-hole event will take place at The Brickyard Country Club and will feature national ranked teams from Wake Forest, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Chattanooga, Charlotte, and Florida State. Play starts on Saturday and runs through Monday at the par 72 course.
Clemson has had a strong opening to the season with a second-place finish at The Carpet Classic in Dalton, GA and a sevent-place at The Ping Preview at Inverness in Toledo, OH.
Clemson finished second at this event behind the University of Georgia last year with a 25-under par score of 839. Kyle Stanley was Clemson's top golfer at The Brickyard last year with a seven-unde-par score of 209, good enough for a seventh place finish.
The Tigers will be led this year by Stanley, who won the Carpet Classic and finished fifth at The Preview. He has a 69.83 stroke average so far this year and is ranked third in the nation by the Golfweek/Sagarin rankings.
David May, Clemson's second best golfer with a 73.00 stroke average so far this year, will join Stanley in the Clemson lineup. The native of Auburn, NY finished 33rd at the Carpet Classic and 17th at The Preview. He will be playing his 32nd career tournament for the Tigers.
Ben Martin and Phillip Mollica are two more veterans who will be in the lineup at The Brickyard. Martin has played just one event and has a 74.33 stroke average. Mollica shot a 228 in his one event so far this year for a 76.00 figure. The native of Anderson, SC won the team qualifying for this event after a pair of 67s at Clemson area courses earlier this week.
Rounding out the lineup will be red-shirt freshman Alex Boyd. Boyd is from Augusta, GA and this will be his first career event. McCuen Elmore, also a red-shirt freshman, will compete as an individual, and all will be playing his first career tournament as a Clemson golfer.
