Clemson, SC - Three members of Clemson's third ranked 2002 men's golf team are among the final 32 competitors in the South Carolina Amateur Match Play Championship. The field played 36 holes over the last two days with the top 32 players moving on to the match play portion, which gets underway on Friday at the Country Club of Spartanburg.

The top Clemson qualifier was 2002 senior Tripp James, who is playing the event on his home course. The Clemson graduate had rounds of 68 and 71 in scoring a 139, tied for fourth among the competitors. James qualified for the match play portion last year.

The Duncan brothers, Brian and Ben, both qualified for the match play portion. Brian Duncan, who will be a red-shirt freshman at Clemson next year, had rounds of 71 and 71 and his 144 total tied for 15th. His brother Ben, who will be a senior at Clemson next year, had rounds of 76 and 70 to get into a playoff for the last position. Eleven players fought for six spots at 146.

Also among the qualifiers was Mickey Plyler, a former Clemson student, who did not play on the Clemson golf team during his undergraduate career (1985-89). He fired a 68 on Thursday to make the cut by a shot.
