Clemson, SC - Future Clemson golfer Sam Saunders and his future Tiger teammate Kyle Stanley are both ranked in the top 10 in the latest Golfweek/Titleist Junior Golf rankings. Saunders rose to number-one in the rankings released last week after winning the FCWT National Championship on May 27. Stanley is currently ranked eighth in the nation. Junior rankings are composed of golfers 18 years of age and under.

Saunders, of Windemere, FL, and Stanley of Bellevue, WA, will be freshmen on Larry Penley's golf team this coming fall.

Saunders won the FCWT National Championship at PGA National Golf Club in Palm Springs, FL. He fired a nine-under-par 207 for the 54-hole event with rounds of 70-72-65. His 65 on the final day included birdies on holes 6,7,9, 10 and 11. He won the tournament by three shots over Geoffrey Shaw.

This is the highest ranking Saunders has had in the Golfweek Junior Rankings. He will turn 19 on July 30, just a few weeks before he reports to Clemson for his freshman year. Last Monday, Saunders came within two shots of qualifying for the US Open when he shot a 142 during sectional qualifying in Columbus, OH.
