Mount Pleasant, SC - Clemson freshman golfer Kyle Stanley won a five-person playoff with consecutive birdies to advance to Sectional Qualifying for the 2007 US Open. Stanley was one of five players to advance from the Local Qualifying held Thursday at the Daniel Island Course in Mount Pleasant, SC.

Stanley, who was named ACC Player of the Year on Monday, the first freshman in league history to win the award, shot a 72 on Thursday to enter a playoff for the fifth and final spot. He was in a five-man playoff for just one spot.

The native of Gig Harbor, WA made birdies on both playoff holes to eliminate the other four players and earn the final spot. He will move on to a Sectional site to be announced at a later date.

It marked the third straight playoff win for Stanley. He won the Sahalee Amateur in his native state of Washington last summer with an eagle on the final playoff hole. In November he defeated Drew Weaver of Virginia Tech with a birdie on the first playoff hole to win the Purdue Aloha Classic in Kauai, Hawaii.

Stanley will be Clemson's number-one golfer when the Tigers open play May 17 at the NCAA East Regional in Alpharetta, GA.

Stanley is attempting to join former Clemson All-American Lucas Glover at this year's US Open in Oakmont Country Club near Pittsburgh, PA. Glover has already qualified for the event by virtue of his top 30 ranking on the 2006 PGA Tour money list.
