May 1, 1998 Clemson, SC - Clemson senior golfer Charles Warren has been named the recipient of the 1998 Dave Williams Award. The honor is given each year to the top senior in college golf. He is the first Clemson player to win the award. Past recipients of the award read like a Who's Who of recent college golf. The 1992 winner was Phil Mickelson of Arizona State. David Duval, then of Georgia Tech, won the award in 1993 and Justin Leonard of the University of Texas captured the honor in 1994. Warren won the 1997 NCAA Championship played at Conway Farms in Chicago, Clemson's first ever NCAA men's golf champion. He has had an outstanding senior year, winning the ACC Tournament two weeks ago with a 205 score, lowest in Clemson history for the event. His play was a big reason Clemson won the event with a -28 team score, an ACC Tournament record. Warren has a 71.78 average for the year, which is currently at a Clemson record pace. He has finished in the top five in five tournaments, including three of his last four. The native of Columbia, SC currently ranks third in Clemson history in career stroke average with a 73.19 mark.
