Clemson, SC -- David May and Phillip Mollica both had top 10 finishes to lead Clemson to a third-place team finish at The Brickyard collegiate golf tournament in Macon, GA. The 54 hole event that featured 15 teams was completed on Tuesday.
Georgia finished first for the second straight year at The Brickyard with an 859 team score. Georgia Tech was second at 864, followed by Clemson at 866. Florida State was fourth at 873 and Virginia Tech was fifth at 875.
May and Mollica finished in a tie for third in the individual race with a 215 score for the three rounds. May had rounds of 72-69-74 for his 215 total, while Mollica had rounds of 72-71-72 for his 215 total. It was the best tournament finish for May in his four years at Clemson and it tied for the best finish for Mollica in a college event.
Alex Boyd, a red-shirt freshman playing in his first career tournament, finished 21st with a 219 score after rounds of 72-76-71.
Clemson's best golfer on Monday was junior Kyle Stanley who had an even par 70. He had struggled in the first two rounds with consecutive 76s and finished in a tie for 36th place. Ben Martin shot a 79 on Monday and finished with a 226 total, 50th place. His scores of 74 and 73 did count towards Clemson's team score in each of the first two rounds.
McCuen Elmore, another red-shirt freshman playing in his first career event, had a 230 total as an individual and finished 67th. He had a 75 on Monday.
