Summer 2003: Had a very strong summer and looks poised to lead the Tigers toward a run at a second consecutive National Championship... qualified for the U.S. Amateur Championship after shooting a 138 over 36 holes at Pinewild Country Club in Pinehurst, NC...had the eighth best total in the stroke portion of the U.S. Amateur to move on to match play...he reached the final 16 of that event played at Oakmont in Pennsylvania...defeated Brandt Snedeker 4 and 3 in the first round of match play...won 7 and 5 over 16-year-old Tom Glissmeyer in the second round...lost in the round of 16 to Lee Williams, one of the last selections to the Walker Cup team, by a score of 4 and 3...so Jones just missed being selected to the Walker Cup team...finished third in the Sunnehanna, with a two-under total of 278 in that event...played well in the Monroe Invitational, finishing with an even-par 280 over his four rounds...continued his solid play at the Northeast Amateur, he placed fourth after another even-par tournament...had two rounds in the 60s to finish second in the stroke portion of the Carolinas Amateur Match Play Championship...had yet another even-par finish over the summer and finished 17th in the Players Amateur...shot a five-under-par 275, which included a second-round 64, at the Porter Cup on his way to a 14th-place finish...finished third in the South Carolina Amateur, four shots back of Champion Bill Haas who plays at Wake Forest. 2002-03 Academic Year: Fourth on the team in stroke average at 72.79, but still made first-team All-ACC for the second straight year... ranked 41st in the final Golfweek/Sagarin computer rankings...led the nation in par three greens in regulation in 2003, he was first in pars per round...won the Jones Cup in the spring of 2003...posted solid numbers in the NCAA National, his score counted each round...shot 15-over to tie for 35th with teammate and fellow senior Matt Hendrix...had three rounds of 75 in the event, so he was consistent for the Tigers...shot 208 at NCAA East Regional to lead the Tigers to nine-stroke victory...had final round 67, his best round of the year by two shots and his top final round performance as a Tiger...his 208 was also a season best...was 13-over-par for his six rounds previous to the NCAA East regional...started the year with a pair of top 10s, at Topy Cup and Carpet Classic, Clemson finished first in both events...had five straight tournaments out of the top 10 prior to second place finish at NCAA East Regional...had third-place at Puerto Rico to get off to a good start in the spring...had a 73.00 stroke average for the fall, but 72.21 for the spring... had a final round 69 to lead Clemson to the team title at the Carpet Classic...joined Ben Duncan with a final round 69 at the event...Jones was second to Duncan among Clemson golfers at the event...had five rounds at par or better in his 11 fall rounds... Clemson's top player at the Hooters Collegiate Match play event, he had a 3-0-1 record...gained victory in the championship match with a convincing 5 & 3 win over Emmett Turner of Augusta State. Summer 2002: Had an active summer that included his participation on the United States team in the Japan vs. United States matches held in Chicago...gained a victory in the final day by defeating Riki Ikeda, 75-78 to help US to a 31-29 team victory on the final day...had a perfect 3-0 record at the event overall...had an eighth-place finish at the Sunnehanna in Johnstown, PA, he had a 281 total for the four rounds...had rounds of 67-68-74-72 at that event...that was his best finish of the summer...had a 13th place finish at the Rice Planters at Mt. Pleasant, SC...had a 286 score for the four rounds, including an opening round 68...also 19th at the Monroe (287), he had a very consistent tournament 72-72-71-72...finished 22nd at the Porter Cup and 30th at the Dogwood...had opening round 66 at the Dogwood, his low individual round of the summer, it came on a par 72 course. 2001-02 Academic Year at Clemson: Ranked 12th in the nation in the final Golfweek college rankings...Clemson's second ranked player with a strong 71.81 stroke average...that includes 71.18 for the seven spring events...finished the year strong with 17th place finish at the NCAAs at The Scarlet Course, he shot a one-under par 283...had three rounds under par in the four days, the only Tiger who could make that claim...had a pair of 69s to open the tournament and closed with a 70...finished in the top 20 in nine of his 12 tournaments this year...his scored counted in every single round in 2001-02, not even D.J. Trahan could say that...in fact every other Clemson starter did not count at least four times in 2001-02...took just 11 more shots over 22 spring rounds than D.J. Trahan, the winner of the Ben Hogan Award and the Jack Nicklaus Award...had eight rounds in the 60s in the spring, the same amount as Trahan...also second on the team in under-par rounds with 17 and in rounds at par or better with 18...shot just eight-over-par for his 37 rounds for the year...only Tiger to shoot a six-under-par round, he did that with 66 at Augusta State on April 7...outstanding on par three holes, he had a 3.03 average, seventh best in the nation...also finished 22nd nationally in par four scoring (4.07), 11th in fewest bogeys per round (2.62) and 16th in pars/round with 11.89 ... had his best tournament of the fall at the Ping Preview ...finished ninth at the event at Ohio State, he shot a 214, one over par...had three top 15 finishes in his five events in the fall, he was 14th at Carpet Classic and 13th at Jerry Pate...would have had a top 10 finish at each had he not shot a 77 in the third round at the Carpet Classic and a 76 in the final round at Jerry Pate...after recording just one top 10 in the fall, had three top five finishes in the spring and five top 15s...started spring with fourth place at Puerto Rico, he was five under...had two opening round 69s to start the spring at Puerto Rico...also fifth in Las Vegas, Clemson's top golfer there...had best showing at Augusta State where his 203 was 13-under-par...the 13-under par tied the Clemson record for a 54-hole event and the 203 score was the third best in Clemson history for a total score for 54 holes...had four consecutive rounds at 60 or better to tie a Clemson record held by Charles Warren and Chris Patton...had three straight rounds in the 60s in getting to playoff at Augusta, then had opening round 68 at ACC Tournament...ended string with 71 at ACC second round, but still finished four-under at that event and 11th overall... under par in five of the seven events last spring after not shooting in red numbers for a tournament in any of the fall events. Summer 2001: Won the South Carolina Open, he competed against professionals in winning the championship...won South Carolina Match play, second straight year, he defeated teammate Jack Ferguson in Championship round...participated in Dogwood Tournament is Druid Hills on June 29, he finished 9-under-par, with a score of 279...his scores of 70-70-70-69 posted him a 12th place finish...participated in the South Carolina Amateur posting a score of 297 and a 24th-place finish. 2000-01 Academic Year at Clemson: Strong contributor as a freshman, his 73.43 stroke average is fourth best in Clemson history for a freshman...only current teammates D.J. Trahan, John Engler and Lucas Glover were better and his rookie performance was better than Chris Patton, Kevin Johnson, Charles Warren and Jonathan Byrd, among others...finished freshman season on a hot streak, he was 10th at NCAA regional and 39th at national event...his 68 in the third round was best by the Clemson team in that round ...had top 10 finish at the NCAA regional, the 210 total was the best ever in an NCAA regional by a Clemson freshman...the 10th place finish was best finish by a Clemson freshman since Richard Coughlan had a fourth-place finish at the 1994 East Regional...had second round 68 that kept Clemson in the ball game at the regional...ended the regional tournament with three rounds under par...had just six under-par rounds all year entering the NCAA regional tournament...had five rounds in the 60s out of his 28 rounds played, the 68 at the East Regional and at the NCAA national were his best round of the year...had 22nd place finish at the ACC Tournament, including a 70-71 finish... a strong closer as a freshman, he never had a final round above 74 all year for his nine tournaments ...strong contributor in the fall as a red-shirt freshman, his 72.44 stroke average for nine rounds was third best behind Glover and Engler...further enhanced his spot in the lineup for the spring with a 2-0-1 record at the Rolex Match Play, the only Tiger to post an undefeated record at that national event...defeated Scott Harrington of Northwestern 4 and 3, then stopped Brad McIntosh of Houston, 1up...halved match with Travis Whisman of UNLV...played nine rounds in the fall in stroke play tournaments and eight were at 75 or better...his low round of the fall of 2000 was a 69, he did that three times...had best individual finish at the Jerry Pate, where his 215 total was tied for 20th in the field...had a pair of 69s after opening 77...had under-par tournament at the Golf World at Arthur Hills Course on Hilton Head Island...had a 214 for the event and finished 33rd...finished 23rd at the South Carolina Amateur in the summer of 2000...Carolinas Match Play champion in the summer of 2000...entered the spring of 2001 ranked 56th in the country according to Golfweek.
