Summer 2003: Had perhaps the strongest summer of all the Tiger golfers...started strong in early June after capturing the 50th annual Sunnehanna Amateur in Johnstown, PA...finished seven-under-par and won by two strokes over Justin Smith of Minnesota...was the third straight Tiger to win that event, as former Clemson golfers Dillard Pruitt and Lucas Glover won it in 2001 and 2002...finished fourth in the Monroe Invitational after shooting four-under-par...lowest finish of the summer was just 14th, which occurred at the Northeast Amateur in late June...fifth-place finish in the Rice Planters Championship after shooting a six-under-par 210 total...along with teammate Jack Ferguson, competed in the U.S. vs. Japan Tournament in mid-July...had a 1-2 record in his three matches at that event...runner-up to Casey Wittenberg in the Porter Cup...had three rounds in the 60s and a 12-under-par total of 268 for that event...was named to the Walker Cup team based on his strong summer play. 2002-03 Academic Year: Always in the game for the Tigers, he finished among Clemson's top three players in every tournament in the spring...was selected as a third-team All-American as a junior...his 71.74 stroke average was third best on the team and 10th best in Clemson history...according to statistics by Golfstat, ranked in the top 25 in the nation in nine different statistical categories...led the nation in first round scoring average with a 70.69 figure...fourth in fewest putts on greens in regulation, seventh in putting for par, ninth in fewest putts per round (29.2), 11th in birdie conversion, 12th in par four scoring average (4.03), 14th in fewest bogeys per round, 11th in subpar strokes/round and 23rd in scoring average vs. par...first-team All-ACC player as a junior...had 12 rounds in the 60s, second on the team to D.J. Trahan's 15, and sixth best in school history for a single season...had 19 under-par rounds, eighth best in school history and 25 rounds at par or better, seventh best in school history...had six top 10 finishes overall, including four finishes where he was exactly fourth... finished fourth at the NCAA East Regional, second among Tigers...had Clemson team best 67 in second round to lead Tigers to 11-under-par team round...has streak of three straight top 10s entering the NCAA nationals and seven straight top 25s...he came up big in the third round of the NCAA National Tournament when he shot a 69, the low round of the tournament by any Tiger on a very tough Karsten Creek course...his score counted three of the four days at the National and helped contribute to the Tigers' title...had a 71.09 stroke average for the fall, tied for second best on the Clemson team with Jack Ferguson, he was just two total strokes short of D.J.Trahan's total for the 11 rounds of play...had 68.50 stroke average for the first round in the fall, best in the nation... had four rounds in the 60s, he had just two his entire 2001-02 season...had a pair of top 10 finishes in the fall with a fourth-place at the Topy Cup and a fourth-place at the Jerry Pate...never led the Tigers at a tournament, but was the second best Clemson performer at the Ping Preview and the Jerry Pate...seven of his 11 rounds in the fall were at par or better and all 11 were at 75 or better, the only Tiger who could make that claim...had a nine-under-par 207 at the Topy Cup, one of the top 15 individual tournaments in Clemson history...had an opening round 65, the low round by a Clemson golfer in the fall...had consecutive rounds in the 60s at the Jerry Pate, he shot a 137 for the 36-hole event that was cut short due to bad weather and played in just one day...finished fourth, his best tournament finish as a Clemson golfer...shot even or better in three of the four tournaments...also played all four rounds at the Hooters Collegiate Match Play, he posted a 3-1 record, including a victory over 2002 U.S. Amateur Champion Ricky Barnes. Summer 2002: Had a pair of top 10 finishes in the summer of 2002...finished 10th at the Monroe in Pittsford, NY on June 12-15 with a 285 score...his tournament performance included a second round 65....also finished 10th at the Dogwood Invitational at Druid Hills Country Club near Atlanta...had a 278 score with rounds of 70-67-68-73...nearly had a top 10 at the South Carolina State Amateur, he finished 11th with a 296 score...also competed at the Rice Planters (34th) and the Southern Amateur (40th). In 2001-02 Academic Year: In many ways the most consistent Clemson player, he finished between 26th and 33rd in eight of the 12 tournaments in his first year of competition...finished third among Clemson players in all five tournaments in the fall and in eight of the 12 events for the year, another example of his consistency...had his best tournament vs. par in the fall in his first career event, The Ridges, when he shot a 218 for two-over par...had his best finish in the individual standings in the fall at Long Cove with his 26th place ranking...had his best round of the fall at the Ping Preview at Ohio State where he had a 69 in the second round ...had a solid 73 in the final round as Clemson won by just one shot...had a 73.93 average for the fall overall, third among Clemson golfers...had best tournament of the year at the ACC where he had a two-under 214...that included a 69 in the second round, his only round in the 60s in the spring...it was his only under par tournament of the year (-2)...he finished a career best 15th with a career best two-under...finished 47th at the East Regional with a 226 on the tough Settingdown Creek Course... played well in the middle two rounds of the NCAA nation Tournament at Ohio State, he fired a 71 in the second round and a 70 in the third round...only Tiger under par in the third round...finished with a 294 total at the NCAAs, fourth among Tigers and 86th overall. Summer 2001: Highlight of summer of 2001 was play in the US Amateur...medallist in qualifying at Orangeburg Country Club with consecutive rounds of 67...finished 20th in stroke play at the US Amateur, then lost in the first round of match play...had a 11th place finish at the Southeast Amateur, he had a 72-hole score of 283...finished 16th at the South Carolina Amateur with a 294 score and 27th at Dogwood with a 284, four-under-par.
