Overview: Only senior on the 2006-07 Clemson team, he will provide valuable leadership as the Tigers look for another top 10 national finish...knows what it takes to win a national championship, he was a red-shirt freshman on that 2003 Clemson team that took the title at Oklahoma State... among the stronger match play competitors in the ACC... won the South Carolina Match Play Championship in 2002 and reached the finals in 2004...continued that reputation in the 2004-05 season when he played very well for the Tigers in the Collegiate Match Play...also played in the Ping Preview and the Hootie's Invitational at Bulls Bay that same year... did not play in any events in 2003-04...defeated 33-year-old Taylor Hough 2-and-1 in the 36-hole final at the Country Club of Spartanburg in the championship match to win the 2002 South Carolina Match Play...brother of former Clemson player Tommy Biershenk, who has been on the Nationwide Tour in recent years...Tommy played on four NCAA Tournament teams at Clemson (1993-96).
2005-06: Did not appear in any tournaments.
2004-05: Played in three tournaments for the Tigers, two stroke play events and one match play event...shot 235 for 54 holes at the Ping Preview, site of the 2005 NCAA Tournament at Caves Valley...that was his first career tournament for the Tigers...also played in the Hooters Match Play event at Myrtle Beach in November...he has had a habit of playing well in match play competition over his career...showed that with a 2-2 record against national competition...defeated Jack Moore of Texas and John Elser of Arizona 3 and 2 in that competition...both matches were clinched on the same day (Nov. 15), the only Tiger to win two matches that day...lost close match to Ryan Cochran of Florida in the final round, 2 and 1...shot 238 in the Hootie's Invitational at Bulls Bay in Mt. Pleasant, SC...finished the year with a 78.83 stroke average.
Summer 2004: Reached the finals of the South Carolina Match Play, he lost in the finals to Todd White of Spartanburg....lost 1-up in the 36 hole final, he missed a 30 foot putt that he left 3 inches short on the final hole.... finished 42nd at the Dogwood Invitational with a 295 score, he was just two-over for the first three rounds.
2003-04: On the squad, but did not play in any tournaments.
2002-03: Red-shirted the season, Clemson won the national championship that year.
Summer 2002: Won the 2002 South Carolina Match Play the summer before he came to Clemson....played the 35 holes on the final day in six-under-par...defeated former Clemson teammate Ben Duncan in the semifinals 3 and 2, and downed Wofford player Jon Stephenson 3 and 1 in the quarterfinals...took the championship match 2 and 1 over Taylor Hough...put an iron shot two feet from the cup and made birdie on the 16th hole and won the hole, a key to the victory in the 36-hole final.
In High School: Won the 4A South Carolina high school championship as a junior...won the Region II-4A Championship as a senior...led Region II in stroke average as a junior and senior...Spartanburg County high school player of the year as a senior...ranked among the top 10 junior golfers in the SCJGA rankings...boiling Spring High school team MVP as a junior and senior...Spartanburg County men's amateur champion in 2000...won the Giffitts AJGA Junior Championship played at Furman in June of 2001 thanks to an eight-under-par 208 score...Personal: Born March 2, 1984 ....son of Tommy and Debbie Biershenk of Spartanburg, SC...majoring in recreation and parks administration.
