In 1999: Second-team academic All-American…went from virtual obscurity as a special teams player in 1998, to third in the ACC in tackles with 144...had perhaps his best game against Mississippi State in the Peach Bowl when he had 16 tackles, including two tackles for loss and 14 first hits...that was an example of his consistent effort, he led the Tigers in tackles in that game....author of Carson's Countdown on the Clemson internet site (www.clemsontigers.com) previewing the Peach Bowl, he sat down at a computer after each practiced and cranked out an article on the day's activities...was honored at Peach Bowl luncheon as one of Clemson's top scholars...his season tackle total of 144 was 10th highest in Clemson history, but the figure did not receive that much attention in light of Keith Adams 186 total for the season...honorable mention All-ACC selection by AP/ACC Sportswriters Association....second on the Clemson team in tackles to Keith Adams...model on consistency who had at least 10 tackles in nine of the 12 games...had regular season high 16 tackles in just 62 plays in the victory over Wake Forest...led Clemson in tackles in that game, one of four times he led the Tigers in tackles...also led Clemson against Marshall with 13 and Georgia Tech with 15...made strides during the preseason to enter the starting lineup, he was second team behind Keith Adams coming out of 1999 spring, then he won a job alongside Adams in the fall...started every game and was in for 817 plays...might have had his best game of regular season at Georgia Tech when he had 10 first hits and 15 total tackles ..also outstanding in win over North Carolina with 15 tackles, including career best two for loss and one sack...started the year with double figure tackle games in each of the first four contests...played an incredible 97 snaps, every single play, against #1 Florida State...had 10 tackles, including seven first hits in that game...also had 14 tackles against Virginia Tech, so he had 24 tackles in the two games against the top 2 teams in the nation...averaged a tackle every 5.9 plays, second only to Adams among top 22 players on defense.
