Greensboro, NC - Akin Akingbala was named ACC Co-Player of the Week with North Carolina freshman Tyler Hansbrough, the league announced Monday. The honor is the first in the career of the senior center from Lagos, Nigeria. It also marks the first ACC Player of the Week honor for Clemson since Edward Scott earned it twice during the 2002-03 season.

Akingbala averaged 21.5 points and 13.5 rebounds per game over two league contests last week, both Clemson wins. On Wednesday against Virginia Tech, he set a career-high with 16 rebounds and seven offensive rebounds. He also totaled 21 points versus the Hokies. On Senior Day against Georgia Tech, he set a career-high with 22 points on 10-14 shooting. He also posted 11 rebounds, giving him two double-doubles for the week and five in the Tigers' last eight games.
