CLEMSON, S.C. (AP) -- James Mays scored a game-high 17 points, grabbed six rebounds and had a career-high six steals as Clemson opened its season with a 91-46 win over Furman on Monday night.

The Tigers forced the Paladins (0-2) into 37 turnovers, had 25 steals and 12 blocks, and shot 54.2 percent from the field. Furman shot 34 percent.

Clemson scored the first 17 points of the game. Furman cut its deficit to 21-13 with under 12 minutes to go in the half, but the Tigers responded with a 16-2 run and led 41-21 at half.

The Paladins trailed by 16 early in the second half before Clemson went on a 36-5 run to lead 83-36 with just over six minutes to go in the game. The Tigers led by at least 45 points the rest of the way.

Cliff Hammonds had 14 points, five steals and five assists, while Demontez Stitt added 12 points and K.C. Rivers had 11 points and eight rebounds for Clemson.

Justin Dehm led Furman with 11 points, while Alex Opacic added 10 points.
