George "Butch" Zatezalo is a name that appears often in Clemson's basketball record books. In three varsity seasons from 1967-70, he scored 1,761 points (third in career scoring). Among his other records are made free throws (501), points per game (23.48), 20-point scoring games (52), and 30-point scoring games (16). He was the first player in Clemson history to be named All-ACC three times.

Zatezalo also had many other feats that remain near the top of the Clemson record books. In a January 1968 game against Maryland, he made an incredible 17-17 free throws. A year later (1968-69), he led the ACC in scoring with a 25.8 average. That year he also played 39.04 minutes per game, still a Clemson record for playing time over the course of a season. Two of his more memorable performances at Clemson were a 46-point performance at Wake Forest and a 43-point game against NC State on Valentines Day 1970.

Over his 75 career games (and starts), Zatezalo scored in double figures in 70 games for a 93.3 percent figure that is the best in school history. He is the only Tiger in history to average at least 20 points a game for three consecutive seasons. He still holds the second, third, and fourth best single season scoring averages in Clemson history. For his career, he averaged 8.4 made field goals per game that is still a Clemson record by nearly two made field goals per game. When he graduated, Zatezalo held over 30 Clemson records and still holds 15. He was inducted into the Clemson Hall of Fame in 1988. Zatezalo passed away in August of 2005 at the age of 57.
