Overview: Valuable contributor to the 2008-09 team in his first season at Clemson...played most of the season as backup shooting guard to Terrence Oglesby...improved his defense as the season progressed...fan favorite due to his hustle and enthusiasm on the court...played in all 32 games as a freshman and could see more playing time as he improves his strength and consistency...possesses solid basketball IQ...high school teammate of Trey Thompkins, a freshman at Georgia in 2008-09...played AAU basketball with Al-Farouq Aminu, a highly-publicized freshman for Wake Forest in 2008-09...coined by Oliver Purnell as the "ultimate glue guy" when he signed with Clemson in the fall of 2007...when he was 12 years old he formed a nonprofit called Tanner's Totes, which delivers goody bags to children and teenagers undergoing long-term cancer treatment in South Carolina and Georgia...first came up with the idea while writing a school paper in the fourth grade...his father was diagnosed with cancer when Tanner was a young child...his dad is cancer-free but suffers from what is known as Graft vs. Host disease...as a result of his charitable efforts, he and his family received a home makeover by celebrity designer Vern Yip...the makeover was shown by HGTV on the show "Deserving Design"...his story was well-documented in his first year with the Clemson program, as he received publicity from an ESPN.com article written by Dana O'Neil in February of 2009...his organization received well over $10,000 in donations after the article was published...presented with a special Coaches vs. Cancer Award at the team's season-ending banquet.

In 2008-09: Named to Academic All-ACC Team...appeared in all 32 games for the Tigers and played an average of 13.2 minutes per contest...averaged 3.6 points and 1.8 rebounds per game...shot 45 percent from the field, including 36 percent on three-point shots...made 8-12 three-point goals in an important eight-game stretch...shot the ball well during December as well, making 60 percent of his field goals between the Liberty game on Dec. 7 and the NC State game on Jan. 10...important contributor defensively, especially in the fullcourt press...tallied 29 steals on the season, which ranked fifth on the team despite less playing time...posted a pair of double figure scoring games, including the first game of the season...had seven games with at least two or more steals...played double figure minutes in all but four games.

Best Games of 2008-09: Recorded season-high in first outing in a Tiger uniform versus Hofstra...hit 3-5 shots, including a three-pointer, as well as 4-4 free throws for 11 points...added four rebounds and two assists in the opener...tallied four steals and two blocks in Clemson's win over TCU in Charleston Classic...posted five points and two steals in Wofford win...had four points and three rebounds at Charlotte...scored seven points in back-to-back games against SC State and North Florida...added three steals against the Bulldogs...totaled eight points and two steals in 15 minutes against East Carolina...scored six points in win over Alabama...top game of the season may have come against NC State, he produced seven points, four steals, and three assists...had a fastbreak dunk off a steal in that contest...hit 2-3 three-pointers for six points at North Carolina...posted five points in 15 minutes in win over #3 Duke...scored five points in back-to-back road games against Boston College and Virginia...tallied six points, three rebounds, and two steals in rout of Maryland...scored 10 points in ACC Tournament game against Georgia Tech, he hit 4-6 shots overall and 2-4 from three.

In High School: Three-star prospect by Scout.com, ranked as the #22 small forward in the nation by that service...just outside the national top 150 by Rivals.com, Hoop Scoop, and Prep Stars...second-team All-State at the AA level as a senior, honorable mention selection his junior season...named state championship game MVP in 2008...averaged 11.7 points, 7.3 assists, and 6.1 rebounds per game his senior year...averaged 25 points per game as a junior playing without Thompkins on Wesleyan's team...first player in Wesleyan history to record at least 1,500 points, 500 rebounds, and 500 assists in a career...played in the Capital Classic All-Star Game in Washington, DC and was a teammate of Andre Young on the U.S. All-Star squad...played in the Gwinnett County All-Star Game...played AAU ball for the Georgia Stars...played high school ball for coach Skip Matherly...chose Clemson over offers from Oregon, Michigan, Vanderbilt, Georgia, Auburn, and Cincinnati...born 3/30/90...majoring in pre-business.
