Overview: Reserve guard who is in his fourth year as a walk-on…
one of the more respected players on the team, he has worked hard in practice
the last three years to make the Tigers better…has worked in practice against
Edward Scott and Will Solomon, two All-ACC guards he has helped to make better
players…has already earned a pair of letters, he has a chance to be a three-time
letter winner as a walk-on…last walk-on to earn three letters was Brian
Chester from 1994-97… a valuable contributor to the team in practice…has
played in 11 games in his career, including six last year, and has scored four
points… Clemson is 11-0 in games he has played in his career…has played
in two ACC games (both against Florida State, a year and a day apart) and nine
non-conference games in his career….scored all four of his points in his
sophomore year…only native of the Midwest on the Clemson roster, he is from
Illinois….outstanding student majoring in biological sciences, he has been
on the ACC Academic Honor roll twice in his career…
In 2002-03: Played in a career high six games, including
the ACC victory against Florida State…Clemson won all six games he appeared
in as a junior…played in five games during Clemson’s nine-game winning
streak to open the season…earned a letter as a reserve guard…named
to ACC Academic Honor Roll for the second time.
In 2001-02: Played in four games during the 2001-02 season
as a sophomore reserve guard…scored his first varsity points at Clemson
against Charleston Southern when he made 2-2 free throws, much to the delight
of the home crowd…made his first career field goal away from home at Hartford…also
appeared in the Florida State game at Clemson in February, his only ACC appearance…earned
a letter as a reserve guard.
In 2000-01: Played in one game as a first-year freshman…made
one free throw attempt and grabbed an offensive rebound in a win over Western
Carolina…practiced with the team the entire year, but did not letter…named
to ACC Academic Honor Roll.
In High School: Averaged 17 points and five assists per game
playing for coach Geoff Falk at Galesburg High School…a Western Big 6
All-Conference player for two seasons, he was a member of the 1998 runner-up
state championship team for Class AA…named the most valuable player on
his high school team his junior and senior seasons…lettered two seasons
in track and two in football, where he was named a first-team all-conference
and all-state quarterback his senior year…a strong student, he won the
Principal’s Award for showing academic and athletic leadership qualities
and community involvement…maintained a 3.8 grade point average on a 4.0
scale… brother Jason played basketball for Iowa, and brother Zach played
football for the Hawkeyes…born Beau Bradley Shay on October 27, 1981…majoring
in biological sciences.
