Overview: Junior college transfer who was one of Clemson’s top subs off the bench in 2003-04….never started, but averaged 15 minutes per game overall, 15.7 in ACC games…first native of the state of Michigan to sign a basketball scholarship with Clemson….saw most of his time at midseason…did finish the season strong with an 11-point game against Virginia in the ACC Tournament in just 19 minutes…solid offensive rebounder, 32 of his 73 rebounds were offensive….still learning the game, he played just one year of high school before going to junior college… came to Clemson in January of 2003 and sat out the second semester…practiced with the team, but was not eligible to compete… arrived at Clemson on January 5, 2003, the day Clemson opened the new Littlejohn Coliseum with a nationally televised game against Duke.
In 2003-04: Had first double figure scoring game with 11 points
at Purdue in the ACC vs. Big Ten Challenge at Purdue… made 5-8 shots from
the field, including Clemson’s only three-point goal of the game….also
had five rebounds in his 16 minutes….also had double figure effort against
Georgia in Philips Arena, he had season high 14 points for the contest in 25
minutes, including 11 in the first half when he made three three-point goals..
.also had five rebounds to tie a career high….best game in second half
of the season was against Wake Forest on Feb. 12 when he made 3-3 shots from
the field and 2-2 from three-point land and scored nine points in just 18 minutes….also
had four rebounds and a steal….had career high six rebounds, all in the
first half, against Virginia on Feb. 21. Also had two assists and no turnovers.
•One of Clemson’s top players as far as not turning the ball over,
he had just two turnovers in is last eight games covering 102 minutes. Had a
five game streak without a turnover at one point.
•Had nine points and five rebounds in win over Florida State on January
13 in 22 minutes, he also had two assists and made 2-5 three-point goals….had
back-to-back solid performances against Boston College and Duke on December
30-January 3….had four points and three rebounds in 15 minutes, made 2-4
shots from the field in win over Boston College….Clemson’s second
leading scorer against Duke at Clemson with 11 points and four rebounds, he
made 5-8 shots from the field in 22 minutes.
At Mott Community College: Came to Clemson from Mott Community College in Flint, MI…averaged 16 points, seven rebounds and 1.3 blocked shots for Mott Community College in 2001-02…shot 57 percent from the field in his two seasons playing for the school…had career highs of 32 points, 12 rebounds and blocked shots…helped Mott to a 65-8 record over two years…team was ranked number-one in final NJCAA Division II national poll in 2001-02…earned all-conference, all-rebound and all-state as a freshman and sophomore…named a junior college honorable mention All-American for 2002-03…selected to the National Junior College All-tournament team each of his two seasons at Mott….also recruited by Purdue, Xavier and Houston out of junior college.
In High School: Attended Flint Southwestern Academy in Flint,
MI…played just one year of high school basketball, he played two years
of football and cross country…helped Flint Southwestern Academy to a 17-12
record and a berth in the regional finals in 1999-00…averaged 16 points
and eight rebounds for Jeff Whitel’s team…earned spot on All-City
and All-Valley teams…starting quarterback for the football team for two
years, he also ran cross country for two years…uncle, William Rice, played
basketball at Ball State…born October 30, 1982 in Flint, Michigan…majoring
in psychology.
