Game 5 - Oral Roberts vs. College of Charleston
Game Notes

Oral Roberts:

  • Nick Jones' pickoff of Brett Gardner in the third inning was his team-leading fourth of the season.
  • Ricky Rivera hit an RBI double to lead off the scoring in the third inning. In three games, Rivera is now 4-for-12 with a homerun, two doubles, three RBI, and three runs scored.
  • Dennis Bigley hit a two-out, 2RBI double to the left-field fence. He now has two doubles and five RBI in the past two games.
  • Starting pitcher Nick Jones threw a complete game shutout, his third complete game of the season. Jones' seven strikeouts ties his season high.
  • With the win, Oral Roberts improves its season record to 42-19 overall. The Golden Eagles are now 22-33 all-time in NCAA Regional play.
  • ORU has now reached the regional final game three times in the last four years.

    College of Charleston:

  • For the weekend, Brett Gardner has struck out twice in nine at-bats (22.2%). During the season, Gardner had only 16 strikeouts in 263 at-bats (6%).
  • After going hitless last night, Gardner singled in the third inning, increasing his national-leading hit total to 122 for the season. Gardner has now hit safely in 26 of his last 27 games. He now has 297 hits for his career, building upon his school record.
  • Gardner stole second during the sixth inning, his 38th of the season and 96th of his career, both school records.
  • College of Charleston entered NCAA Regional play outhitting its opponent 803 to 579, a 1.39-to-1 ratio. In the three regional games, the Cougars have been outhit 11 to 23, a .48-to-1 ratio. The hits in each of the regional games (5, 2, and 4) mark the three lowest hit totals for College of Charleston this season.
  • College of Charleston has now been shutout for 20 consecutive innings (including the final two innings vs. NC A&T). College of Charleston has not been shutout in consecutive games since April 26, 1995 vs. Charleston Southern (2-0) and April 28, 1995 vs. Florida Atlantic (6-0), a streak of 574 games.
  • With the loss, College of Charleston's record falls to 48-15 overall. The Cougars are now 3-4 all-time in NCAA Regional action.
