Box Score

Clemson, SC-

Josh Cribb pitched a complete game allowing one run on six hits and striking out nine to lead #7 Clemson to a 3-1 win over Maryland in front of 5,209 fans at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Friday. The Tigers improved to 22-8, and 7-3 in the ACC, while the Terrapins fell to 14-18, and 6-10 in conference play.

Adrian Casanova was 2-for-3 with a double and run scored for the Tigers, as eight of nine starters recorded at least one hit on the night. Mike Murphy had a single and the only Terrapin RBI of the night.

Cribb (6-0) threw 104 pitches and did not walk a batter to earn the win. It was his fourth career complete game as well. Casey Baron (1-3) allowed three runs on eight hits in 7.1 innings pitched and suffered the loss for Maryland.

The Tigers opened the scoring in the second. Andy D'Alessio singled up the middle with one out, and scored on an RBI single to center by Travis Storrer with two outs.

Casanova led off the eighth with a double to left-center, and scored on Herman Demmink's double down the right field line. Demmink's double came on an 0-2 pitch, as he had had two unsuccessful bunt attempts prior to the hit. The two doubles were the first extra base hits of the game for either team. Brad Chalk moved Demmink to third with a sacrifice bunt, the 26th of Chalk's career, which set the Clemson record for sacrifice bunts in a career. Taylor Harbin followed with a safety squeeze to bring home Demmink, giving Clemson a 3-0 lead. Harbin beat the throw to first for a single as well.

Matt Maropis singled to center to lead off the ninth, and moved to second on a one-out single up the middle by Gerry Spessard. Dan Melvin reached on a fielder's choice groundout, and Murphy singled on an 0-2 pitch to center to score Maropis, and the only Maryland run of the night. Cribb got Chad Durakis to groundout to second to end the game.

Clemson and Maryland continue their three-game series Saturday at 4:00 PM at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
