Clemson, SC -

Four Tiger pitchers combined for a shutout, as #6 Clemson topped #17 Coastal Carolina 4-0 at Doug Kingsmore Stadium Wednesday in front of 4,193 fans. P.J. Zocchi, Matt Zoltak, Stephen Clyne, and Daniel Moskos yielded only five hits and one walk in the win. The Tigers improved to 8-3, while the Chanticleers dropped to 12-3.

Zocchi (2-0) allowed only five hits in 5.1 innings pitched to earn the victory for Clemson. Moskos pitched 1.1 innings to record his second save of the season. David Anderson (2-1) pitched 6.0 innings, and allowed one run on eight hits to take the loss for Coastal Carolina.

Brad Chalk and Marquez Smith each went 3-for-4 to lead the Tigers offensively, who had 11 hits. Taylor Harbin added two doubles and an RBI, while Andy D'Alessio and D.J. Mitchell also sent runs home. Chris Raber was 2-for-4 to lead Coastal Carolina at the plate.

Clemson scored its first run in the third. With two outs, Brad Chalk doubled down the right-field line followed by Taylor Harbin's RBI double, plating Chalk and putting the Tigers ahead 1-0.

Clemson found the scoring column again in the eighth inning. Harbin hit his second double of the game, followed by D'Alessio's RBI single that plated Harbin. After D'Alessio advanced to third on a passed ball, Marquez Smith hit a double to left field, plating D'Alessio. Paulsen was hit by a pitch and Burg walked to load the bases. D.J. Mitchell hit into a fielder's choice to third base, scoring Smith and putting the Tigers up 4-0.
 

 

The Tigers return to action Friday at 4:00 PM when they play host to Memphis at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.
