CLEMSON, S.C. - Clemson scored in seven of the eight innings in which it batted to defeat East Carolina 16-4 at Tiger Field on Saturday afternoon.

Sophomore Skip Browning (1-0) earned his first victory of the season by pitching seven innings, allowing only four hits and three earned runs. Brian Fields (0-2) suffered the loss for the Pirates.

Clemson (4-1) jumped on the Pirates early, opening with seven runs in the first three innings, highlighted by Justin Hyde's first career homer as a Tiger, a three-run shot. Patrick Boyd, Kurt Bultmann, Jason Harris, and Mike Calitri also added long balls on the day. The home runs for Boyd, Calitri, and Hyde were the first career homers for each respective player.

Thirteen players scored Clemson's 16 runs in the game. Matt Padgett also had a productive day at the plate, going 3-for-4 with two runs scored.

East Carolina (1-2) put three runs on the board in the seventh inning on an Antaine Jones three-run homer off Browning. Jones led the Pirates with two hits and three RBIs.

Clemson will play host to East Carolina in the series finale Sunday at 1:00 PM.
