Former walk-on catcher who has been a valuable backup for the past two seasons...very unselfish player who has done everything asked of him...one of the most respected players on the team...has played 13 games (one start) in his career; he is 3-for-8 (.375) with one RBI and one walk...joins Stan Widmann as the only graduate students on the team.
2008: Was 3-for-8 (.375) with one RBI in 10 games (one start as the DH)...had six putouts without committing an error...had a hit in each of his first three at-bats of the season...was 3-for-6 as a pinch-hitter and led the team in pinch-hit hits...was 3-for-6 with runners on base and 2-for-3 with runners in scoring position...was 3-for-6 against righthanders...was 3-for-5 at home...lined a run-scoring single in his first career official at-bat in the first game of a doubleheader against Mercer on Feb. 23...hit a pinch-hit single against Boston College on Mar. 16; it was his first career ACC game...hit a pinch-hit single against Furman on Mar. 20...made his first career start at Duke on Apr. 19.
2007: Appeared in three games behind the plate off the bench and made one plate appearance; he drew a walk against College of Charleston on May 15; also had his only putout in that game...saw action off the bench against George Mason on Feb. 16 and against Gardner-Webb on Mar. 27.
BEFORE CLEMSON: All-region as a junior and senior at Hanahan High School...team captain as a senior...voted team MVP as a junior and senior...MVP of the 2003 Southern Prospect Showcase in North Charleston, SC...member of the Dixie Majors State Championship team in 2003, 2004, and 2005, including being named player-of-the-game in the 2005 title game...member of the 2005 Dixie Majors World Series Championship team...lettered four times in baseball at Hanahan High, where he was coached by Brian Mitchell.
PERSONAL: Two-time member of the ACC Academic Honor Roll...graduated in May, 2008 with a degree in economics...born William Adam Ward on Jan. 12, 1986 in Hanahan, SC.
