King, who will turn 30 on February 26 when the Tigers play host to James Madison, comes to Clemson from Edmonds Community College in Lynnwood, WA, where he was the team's head coach in 1999 and top assistant in 1998. Edmonds finished the '99 season as the runner-up in the Northwest Athletic Association Community College League title chase. In the two seasons at Edmonds CC, he coached 12 players who were selected in the Major League Draft.

Two of his players at Edmonds transferred to Clemson for the 2000 season. Right-hander Nick Glaser and infielder Ryan Riley were two prominent contributors on the 1999 Triton ball club and will compete for key roles on the 2000 Clemson team as juniors.

In 1998, King managed the Seattle Devil Rays to the Connie Mack State Championship. During that time, he also was head recruiter and head instructor for the Eastside Rays Baseball Organization, which maintained baseball clubs for youth ages 13-18.

King has also coached at the high school and club-team level. In 1997, King was the head coach of the Mercer Island High School team. In 1996-97, he coached the Maroni's Baseball Club. The '97 squad won the regional championship and had a top-10 national finish. The 1996 and 1997 teams also won the Senior Babe Ruth State Championship.

Prior to his work in coaching, King played shortstop in the Angels' organization from 1993-95. In '93, he was a member of the Boise (A) Hawks' baseball team that won the Northwest League Championship. That season he also had a .989 fielding percentage, the best by any shortstop in the Angel organization.

As a collegiate player at Edmonds CC, he was named the Northern Division's Most Valuable Player in 1990. Following his career at Edmonds CC, he went on to finish his collegiate career at Oklahoma City University. While King played at Oklahoma City, the school was a participant in the 1992 NAIA World Series, where the Stars finished the tournament in third place.

King graduated from Oklahoma City University with a Bachelor's of Science degree in health in 1995. King, who is single, was born on February 26, 1970.
