Clemson Men's Cross Country Team Finishes Fourth

BOONE, N.C. - The Clemson men's cross country team opened its season with a fourth-place finish out of a field of 12 teams at the Appalachian State Invitational. The Tigers scored 102 points and finished behind first-place Wake Forest (23 pts.), runner-up Florida State (80 pts.) and host Appalachian State (86 pts.).

Junior Scott Shaw (East Syracuse, NY) led the Tigers with a fourth place finish and a time of 25:06. Freshman Matt Pimentel (Andover, MA) was 15th with a time of 25:28, and sophomore Ryan Fenton (Portland, ME) was 19th in 25:43. Freshman Matt Gunn (Idaho Falls, ID) completed the course in 25:53 for a 23rd place finish and junior Jason Meany (Liverpool, NY), who was stung by a hornet in the first part of the race, finished 41st (26:42).

The Tigers will next compete at the Winthrop Invitational in Rock Hill, SC, on Sept. 15.
