Clemson Men's Cross Country To Open Season Friday
Aug. 29, 2001 CLEMSON, S.C. - The 2001 Clemson men's cross country team will open its season at the Appalachian State University Invitational this Friday in Boone, NC. Clemson returns six letter winners from the 2000 squad in David Adams, Travis Alexander, Mike Barton, Ryan Fenton, Jason Meany and Scott Shaw. Matt Gunn, Matt Pimentel, Steve Shive, David Smith and Derrick Wyatt round out this year's team. The Tigers finished sixth at the ACC Championships in 2000, and posted a 14th place finish at the Southeast Regionals. "I am looking forward to returning to the university where I coached for 14 years with an improved squad," Tiger head coach Bob Pollock said. "This team is very enthusiastic and hungry to be in the hunt to challenge for the ACC title. That opportunity begins this Friday as we will compete against two ACC teams in the 13-team field. Wake Forest and Florida State will be at the meet, and this will give us an early-season opportunity to see where we stand in the conference."
