Swimming and Diving Teams Fall at Virginia

The men's and women's swimming and diving teams fell 176-116 and 178.5-116.6 to Virginia in Charlottesville, VA on Saturday in a dual meet. The men fall to 4-1 (3-1 ACC), while the women dropped to 1-4 (1-3 ACC). Both Cavaliers teams improved to 2-1 (2-0 ACC) with the win. The diving teams had very good showings for the Tigers, with the David Giambra and Marco Raye finishing 1-2 on the 1-meter and the women finishing 1-3-4 on the 1-meter, led by Stephanie Fura. Also, senior Danielle Kazilionis won the 3-meter event by posting a 262.95. Junior Rachel Regone continued her dominance in the 50 free, posting a ACC season-best and NCAA B Standard 23.29. Lauren Sindall placed third with a season best 23.72. Freshman Elizabeth Savage won the 400 IM in 4:29.10 in a Tiger sweep. The women's 200 free relay team of Rachel Regone, Lauren Sindall, Alex Allen and Crina Aeschbacher (1:34.48) posted a win for the Tigers as well.
On the men's side, seniors Mark Vahle (20.68) and Matt Balderston (20.69) finished 1-Vahle has still not been beaten this season. Those two, along with Adam Farnham and Stephen Russell teamed up to take the 200 free relay in 1:21.62. Farnham came in second in the 100 fly (49.99). Senior captain Attila Ruszka led a 1-3-4 finish in the 100 breast along with Eric Lane and Andy Bergren. The Tigers will look to bounce back this weekend as they take on South Carolina at McHugh Natatorium on Saturday, Nov. 3 at 2:00 p.m. The Tigers will appreciate your support as this is a Solid Orange event and is free to the public. |
