CLEMSON, SC--Attila Ruszka won three events, while freshman David Gordon won two events in leading the Clemson men's swimming team to a 183-117 win over Virginia Tech in an Atlantic Coast Conference swimming meet at Clemson, SC on Sunday afternoon.
In the women's competition, Virginia Tech defeated Clemson 178.5-121.5. Clemson's Rachel Regone won both the 50 and 100 free events. She was also a member of the 400 free relay that finished in first place.
Virginia Tech was paced by Jessica Botzum as she won two individual events. Botzum won the 200 IM (2:06.31) and the 200 breaststroke (2:15.92). She was also on the 200 medley relay team (1:45.73) that finished in first place.
This was the first dual competition for both teams.
Ruszka won the 100 breastroke with a time of 57.33 and the 200 breastroke with a time of 2:08.46. In the 200 IM, he won first place honors with a time of 1:54.99. Gordon won the 1000 free with a time of 9:39.02 and the 500 free with a time of 4:40.50.
"Freshman David Gordon stepped up strong for us," said Clemson Head Coach Chris Ip. "It's hard for a freshman to swim in three races as he did today. He won the 1000 free, the 500 free, and was fourth in the 200 fly. I was very proud of his effort today."
The 400 freestyle relay team of Stephen Russell, Adam Farnham, Bryce Herrington, and Matt Balderston finished first with a time of 3:04.41.

In the one-meter women's diving competition, Clemson's Stephanie Fura won top honors with a final score of 263.78. In the three-meter competition, the Hokies' Sarah Milton won the event with 299.93.
"On the women's side, Lauren Sindall did well for us today," said Ip. "She along with Rachel Regone gives us a good one-two punch in the different events."
