Chapel Hill, NC- Clemson Men's Swimming and Diving turned in an impressive performance on day one of the ACC Championships from Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, NC. In the Wednesday night session, the Tigers swam the 800 freestyle relay and the 200 medley relay, both in NCAA Provisional Qualifying times. Clemson's 200 medley relay also broke the school record which was just set last year at the ACC meet.

The first event of the swimming championships was the 800 freestyle relay. The team of Brett MacLennan, Daniel Mengering, Brian Regone, and Bryce Herrington finished fifth with a time of 6:37.60. This was the third best time in school history in the event. In the second event, the 200 medley relay, the team of Joel Johnson, Attila Ruszka, Adam Farnham, and Mark Vahle claimed the bronze medal with a school record time of 1:28.45. This beat the old mark of 1:28.51 that was set by Johnson, Ruszka, Vahle, and Regone, who also got the bronze.

Virginia and Florida State are tied for the lead in the meet with 74 points after day one. Clemson is next with 60, tied with Virginia Tech and host North Carolina. Maryland (50), N.C. State (50), Duke (40), Georgia Tech (22), and Boston College (18) round out the field. Action will continue tomorrow at 11 a.m. with the preliminary heats of the 500 freestyle, 200 IM, and 50 freestyle.
