Chapel Hill, NC - The Clemson Women's Swimming and Diving team used a first place in the 200 freestyle relay to move from sixth to fourth on the second day of the ACC Championships from Koury Natatorium in Chapel Hill, NC. The relay of Rachel Regone, Lauren Sindall, Michelle Parkhurst, and Kallie Deters broke the ACC meet, North Carolina pool, and school record in the event with a time of 1:31.09. Regone (22.72) recorded a career best time in the 50 free, and holds the second best time in Clemson history. With 168 points, the Lady Tigers trail only North Carolina (262), Florida State (200), and Virginia (198) in the overall competition.
To start off the night, Cassy LaRussa placed eighth in the 500 freestyle with a 4:54.63. Summer O'Donnel (4:53.72) and Toni Kroll (4:58.39) placed 12th and 15th, respectively. O'Donnell posted an NCAA Provisional Qualifying time in the event. Katrina Obas led Clemson in the 200 IM as she finished eighth with a time of 2:04.59. Danielle Kazilionis (244.00) placed 12th, and Stephanie Fura (224.70) finished 15th for Clemson in the one-meter diving competition. Regone then sprinted to the silver medal in the 50 freestyle with a time of 22.83. Deters (23.51), Sindall (23.39), and Parkhurst (23.41) placed seventh, 12th, and 13th. Clemson then claimed it's first relay title since 2002 as they beat out Florida State by .03. The Lady Tigers (1:31.09) just missed the NCAA Automatic time of 1:31.01.
Clemson will resume on day three of the ACC meet at 11 a.m. with the 400 IM, 100 butterfly, 200 freestyle, 100 breaststroke, and 100 backstroke.
