Women's Swimming & Diving Defeats North Carolina Henson, Mihalik dual winners for Tigers

CLEMSON, S.C. -The Clemson women's swimming and diving team, ranked 20th nationally, defeated North Carolina 144-99, Friday afternoon at the McHugh Natorium on Clemson's campus. Senior Wendy Henson and junior Jen Mihalik were dual winners for the Tigers. Henson placed first in the 200 free with a time of 1:51.18 and won the 500 free in 4:55.43. Her time in the 500 free qualifies her provisionally for the NCAA Championships. Mihalik took first place in the 200 back (2:02.91) and the 50 free (24.23). Freshman Caroline Peterson won the 100 free with a time of 52.30, and the Tigers' 400 free relay team of Henson, Meagan Davis, Kathy Lowry and Mihalik placed first with a time of 3:27.87. In the diving competition, Clemson took the top four positions in both events. Sophomore Betsy Potter won the one-meter competition with a score of 273.67. Freshman Michaela Smith scored 243.30 to win the three-meter competition. The Tigers (4-2, 1-1 ACC) will play host to South Carolina Saturday, January 16 at 1 p.m.
