Player Profile
Position:
Assistant Coach

Jonathan Kaplan is in his first season as Clemson's assistant swimming and diving coach. Kaplan will be mostly working with the Clemson distance groups. His background in coaching distance includes serving the head coach for the Venezuelan Open Water Swimming Team, as well as working closely with the highly rated Florida State distance program for two years.

Most recently Kaplan has been the head coach for the North Central Florida YMCA in Gainseville. He has also been working as a graduate assistant swimming coach at Florida State University while he earning his masters degree in sports administration.

Head Coach Chris Ip believes that Kaplan will be able to fit right in at Clemson. Along with the fact that he already has experience coaching distance at a high level, Ip thinks that his coaching philosophy will fit right in with what the Tigers are trying to do.

"He has the ability to work with large programs but give athletes that special individual attention, and his meticulous eye for details ensures an efficient program," said head coach Christopher Ip.

While he is with Clemson, he will be asked to have a major hand in the recruiting. Since he has been a student-athlete and a coach in the ACC, he knows what kind of student-athletes Clemson needs to attract. Along with his background in sports administration, this is why Ip has asked him to spearhead the program as the recruiting coordinator.

Kaplan swam collegiately from 1998-2002 for the Seminoles.During his senior season, he was named the team captain for the squad.

In 2002, Kaplan graduated from Florida State with a degree in sports administration. Two years later he received his masters degree in the same field.
