May 29, 2001 Eugene, OR - Four Lady Tigers and the Clemson 4x100m and4x400m relay teams have qualified for the NCAA Indoor Championships to be held in Eugene, OR, Wednesday through Saturday. Cydonie Mothersill will compete in the 100m and 200m dashes. She posted the fastest time in the nation in the 200m at the ACC Championships on April 21, with an automatic qualifying time of 22.57. She has the eighth-fastest time in the nation in the 100m dash with a time of 11.31 set at the Clemson Invitational on April 7. Shekera Weston will also compete in two events for the Lady Tigers. She is ranked 23rd in the 200m dash with a time of 23.27 set at the ACC Championships on April 21. She also set her quaifying time of 52.81 in the 400m at the ACC Championships. She is seeded 15th in the 400m. Michelle Burgher is seeded 11th in the 400m with a time of 52.74, set at the Jesse Owens Track Classic on May 6. The Lady Tigers' 4x100m relay team of Shannon Murray, Burgher, Weston and Mothersill posted the 6th-best time in the nation. Their mark tied the Clemson school record and was set at the Georgia Tech Invitational on May 19. Clemson's 4x400m relay team of Burgher, LaShonda Cutchin, Weston and Mothersill recorded the third-best time in the nation (3:31.84) at the Orange and Purple Classic on May 13. Marcia Smith will travel with the team as an alternate for the relay. Jamine Moton will compete in both the shot put and the discus throw. Her mark of 58'2 1/2" is the best mark in the nation this season. She posted an automatic qualifying mark of 182'2" in the weight throw. That mark is fifth in the nation this year.

Outdoor Championships At this year's meet, Cydonie Mothersill won the 100m dash with a time of 11.34, while Shannon Murray finished fifth in 11.99. Mothersill also claimed the 200m title in 22.57 while Shekera Weston was second with a time of 23.27. LaShonda Cutchin placed fourth (23.74) and Marcia Smith was sixth with a time of 23.96. Weston won the 400m dash with a time of 52.81 and Michelle Burgher was the runner-up in 52.89. Cutchin placed fifth (54.31), and Smith was sixth in 54.52. Perry Fields finished ninth in the 1500m run with a time of 4:39.93 while Kristi Toothman completed the 5000m run with a time of 19:16.10. Toothman also competed in the 10,000m, finishing 13th with a time of 39:48.11. Kyana Elder claimed the 100m hurdles title with a time of 13.51, and Nyjla Littlejohn finished fourth in 13.91. Burgher won the 400m hurldes (57.79), and Littlejohn was the runner-up with a time of 58.76. The Tigers' 4x100m and 4x400m relay teams won their events. The 4x400m relay team set an ACC meet record with a time of 3:33.57, while the 4x100m relay team recorded an automatic qualifying time of 44.19. Katie Pickett finished fifth in the high jump with a mark of 5'7", while Sheri Smith was 12th in the long jump (18'1 1/2"). Mandy McLane was the top finisher for the Lady Tigers in the pole vault as she cleared 12'4". Joana Costa took eighth place with a mark of 11'10, and Sarah Ellis finished 11th, clearing 11'4 1/4". Sheri Smith won the triple jump with a personal best mark of 41'9 1/4", and Costa was ninth (38'6 1/4"). Jamine Moton claimed the shot put with a mark of 52'5 1/4", and she also won the discus throw (176'7"). Moton set an ACC record in the hammer throw, winning that event with a mark of 188'8". Mary Gosselin finished 17th in the hammer with a mark of 121'8". Elizabeth Lord was ninth in the javelin throw with amark of 110'9", and Gosselin posted a mark of 93'1" to finish 17th. Lauren Nicholson finished ninth in the heptathlonwith 4418 points, and Katrina Moultrie was 11th with 4080 points.

Tigers In The Record Books Jamine Moton is Clemson's all-time leader in the shot put, hammer throw and discus throw. Moton posted a mark of 58'2 1/2" in the shot put at the Orange and Purple Classic, and recorded a mark of 189'3" in the hammer throw. Her mark of 182'2" in the discus at the Penn Relays was another personal best. Cydonie Mothersill is the Lady Tiger's all-time leader in the 100m and 200m dashes. Her time of 11.31 in the 100m at the Clemson Invitational set a Clemson record as did her time of 22.57 in the 200m set at the ACC Championship. Michelle Burgher is second on the 400m hurdle all-time best list with a time of 57.79 set at the ACC Championships. She ranks third in the 400m dash with a time of 52.74 set at the Jesse Owens Track Classic. Kyana Elder currently ranks second all-time in the 100m hurdles after posting a time of 13.44 at the Georgia Tech Invitational. Nyjla Littlejohn ranks fourth in the 100m hurdles and 400m hurdles. She recorded a time of 13.82 in the 100m hurdles in the preliminaries at the ACC Championships, and recorded a provisional qualifying time of 58.76 in the 400m hurdlesalso at the ACC Championships. Perry Fields is fifth on the all-time list in the 800m with a time of 2:09.09 at the Sea Ray Relays. Katie Pickett is fourth in the high jump with a mark of 5'7"" posted at the ACC Outdoor Championships. Sheri Smith ranks third in the triple jump with her mark of 41'9 1/4" , recorded at the conference meet. Mary Gosselin is fourth all-time in the hammer throw with a mark of 133'4" set at the Georgia Relays. The 4x400m relay team of Michelle Burgher, LaShonda Cutchin, Shekera Weston and Cydonie Mothersill tied the school record of 3:31.84 at the Orange and Purple Classic. That record was set in 1998 by Brown, Tomlinson, Weston and Bouyer.

NCAA Indoor
Championships Senior Cydonie Mothersill became the Lady Tigers' second National Champion, winning the 200m dash. Mothersill qualified for the finals with a time of 22.84 and posted a time of 22.89 to win the title. Jamine Moton was the leading scorer for the Lady Tigers at the NCAA meet. She tallied 14 points for Clemson, placing second in the shot put and third in the weight throw. Moton set a personal best and school record with her mark of 53'8 1/2" in the shot put. Her mark of 66'11 1/2" in the weight throw was her second-best mark ever. Perry Fields competed in the mile run, finishing 14th with a time of 5:00.70. She qualified for the NCAA Championships with a personal best time of 4:43.26. Michelle Burgher, Marcia Smith, Shekera Weston and Mothersill took third place in the 4x400m relay. The team recorded a time of 3:34.83, its fastest time of the season.
Moton Named ACC Indoor Women's Track and Field MVP Moton, a junior from Glassboro, N.J., was the ACC Champion in the shot put and weight throw. In the shot put, her throw of 52'05.25" broke a 10-year-old ACC Indoor meet record of 51'04.25" set by Virginia's Kelly Bodiford in 1991. On the final day of competition, Moton posted a championship and NCAA automatic qualifying mark of 65'09.75" in the weight throw. That mark broke the previous ACC Indoor weight throw record of 62'05.00" set in 1998 by Florida State's Lakeisha Mose. |
