Lawson Clary was hired as an athletic academic advisor for the Student-Athlete Enrichment Program (Vickery Hall) in July 2006. Lawson grew up in Gaffney, South Carolina where he attended and graduated from Gaffney Senior High School in 1998. He went on to attend Furman University and graduated with a BA in History in 2002. He then attended Southeastern Baptist Theological Seminary where he earned a Master of Divinity degree in 2004. In 2004, Clary began working towards a Masters in History degree at Clemson University and completed the program in 2006.

He had previously worked in the SAEP as a mentor and graduate assistant starting in August of 2005. Lawson is currently the athletic academic advisor for football and men's tennis. Additional duties include working with the Triple E study hall program, Personal Growth and Development, Acclimatization for Freshman football players, tutor committee, and recruitment materials for all sports. He is currently working on his doctoral degree in Parks Recreation and Tourism Management at Clemson University.

Clary is married to Michelle Herman and they have one child, Hudson.
