Strength, Speed & Conditioning Overview

Clemson University has one of the finest weight rooms in the country.

Perhaps the most impressive characteristic of the facility is the size. Several years ago it was enlarged to an astounding 11,000 square feet, making it one of the largest in the nation. In 1999, it was expanded to 14,000 square feet.

This past spring and summer (2004) the weight room was drastically remodeled, receiving a more modern and updated look as well as a more functional layout. New and updated features of the weight room include:

  • State of the art sound system
  • Eight flat-screen plasma televisions
  • State of the art ventilation system
  • New lighting system
  • 10 new multi-functional Clemson power racks
  • Mondo rubber flooring throughout entire weight room
  • New orange upholstery on all equipment
  • New paint on surrounding walls and columns
  • Carpeting in entrances and offices
  • Front entrance drop ceiling
  • Metal overlay for awards displays
  • Reconstruction of entryway walls
  • ACC display

The facility boasts over 12 tons of weight equipment and lines of Nautilus and Hammer Strength machines. The vast amount of equipment allows the weight room to be used by a number of teams simultaneously. The plush atmosphere provides an interesting contrast to the physical exertion that takes place in the facility.

The strength training staff includes five full-time strength trainers who are responsible for overseeing all athletic teams and four graduate assistants who work with specific teams. A strength coach is assigned to each team to ensure proper safety and training by the athletes.

The strength training facility also provides nutritional supplementation for the athletes. NCAA compliant products are available for all Clemson athletes. Also, the Athletic Department contracts out to a performance nutritionist, Loreto Jackson, Ph.D., who gives nutritional seminars to teams and works one-on-one with special needs athletes.
