Career Enhancement
Mission
Through an educational process we will allow our student-athletes the opportunity
to develop skills necessary to fulfill their goals and compete in the real
world after graduation. Along with our career center through our compliance
office we will also provide actual experience needed to attain future employment.
Educational Employment Services
Career Counseling and
Testing Counselors
are available to help student-athletes make career decisions. The Strong
Interest Inventory and the College Student Inventory are given to all freshmen
student-athletes to learn about skills, interests, and values.
Career Workshops and
Seminars Workshops and seminars are provided to educate student-athletes
and help develop skills for future employment. Many areas are provided
such as resume preparation, interviewing skills, dress for success, job
search strategies, and networking with alumni.
Career Center
The career center on campus offers other services such as computerized
career guidance, internship orientations, job location and development,
graduate school information, career and internship fairs, and a career
resource library.
S.A.F.C.A
This is a group that consists of student-athletes that meet monthly with
our career counselor to discuss programs and op~ortunities available to
student-athletes. This feedback is critical to programs and opportunities
provided.
Student-Athlete Career Placement
Services
Career Center
The Career Center provides many areas of job placement. These areas are
an on campus interviewing program, summer job program, corporate intemships,
resume referrals, Expo career fair, career library, and alumni services.
Competitive Resource
Group This is a niche placement firm that specializes in working
with individuals that have athletic backgrounds. Businesses today are searching
for individuals who are competitive, disciplined, have good work ethics,
and know the importance of time management. CRG demonstrates to potential
business clients how athletes possess these skills. Through an interviewing
process on campus, CRG recruits our student-athletes for future employment.
Summer and Semester
Job Program Actual experience is gained through our local businesses
providing jobs for our student-athletes during the summer and during the
regular school year. This program is monitored through our career coordinator
and the compliance office to ensure that NCAA rules are followed and abided
by.
Career Fair
A career fair for student-athletes is provided during the year. This
allows our students to meet future employers and learn first hand what
it takes to compete in the business world. This is a fantastic opportunity
for our student-athletes.
Job Placement /Alumni
This is a follow-up program that allows us to know where our graduates
are employed. Upon graduation a reception is provided for out student-athletes
and their parents. This allows our student-athletes the opportunity to
register with our career counselor and gives us a networking program for
future Clemson student-athletes.
Promotions and Marketing
Our student-athletes upon graduation are put in numerous publications
to allow employers the opportunity to see who is graduating in different
fields and opens up further job placement.
Conclusion
We want to provide our student-athletes
with every opportunity to succeed. Through our educational programs offered
by Vickery Hall and our career center we feel they have the opportunity
to develop their employment skills while they are attending Clemson University.
They also can gain actual experience through our job programs and network
with companies and alumni for future job employment. Our main objective
is for our student-athletes to graduate and make a strong contribution
to our society. We want them to be leaders and provide opportunities for
others. While we want to provide opportunities for our student-athletes
we also work directly with our compliance office to maintain that all programs
abide and are conducted within NCAA legislation.
