I. Attending:

II. President Randy Cheek opened the meeting with a welcome to the Board, followed by an invocation. Minutes of the December 11, 2008 meeting were approved.

III. Athletic Director Terry Don Phillips gave a status report of the athletic department and gave welcoming comments. He was followed by Bill D'Andrea, Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs, who also welcomed the group and expressed appreciation for a successful Spring Gathering.

IV. Bert Henderson, Executive Director of IPTAY, welcomed the Board and gave an update on the status of IPTAY as well as season ticket sales (football.)

V. Charlie Bussey then explained the procedure for selecting nominees for the Athletic Hall of Fame. Following is a list of those nominated for the 2009 class of the Hall of Fame:

b. Chuck Kriese - Men's Tennis Coach
c. Sheri Bueter - Women's Soccer
d. Brian Dawkins - Football
e. Rob Bodine - Football
f. Jodi Steffes - Volleyball
g. John Desdunes - Men's Tennis
h. John Engler - Golf

VI. Emily Wood, Chair of the Committee to Nominate New Board Members, nominated the following additions:

a. Gary Barnes
b. Ian Davidson
c. Wayne Coffman

The nomination carried unanimously. Others on the committee were Bob Fant, Vance Hammond and Renee Williams-Verdell.

VII. George Bennett, Chair of the Hall of Fame Advisory Committee (Barbara Kennedy-Dixon, Cecil Huey and Ray Brown), reported that the committee would give its report at the December meeting. Charlie Bussey requested that the committee broaden its scope and review the current constitution.

VIII. Charlie Bussey reported that a committee, consisting of Bussey, Clark Gaston, Charles Wyatt, Ben Crosland and Barbara Kennedy-Dixon, had met and studied the current dues structure of the Tiger Letterwinners Association. The Board, after a great deal of discussion, voted to keep annual dues at $25, but effective July 1, 2009, all adult guests will be charged $5 and all children will cost $3 each.

IX. Charlie Bussey then told the Board of the following letterwinners who have deceased since the December meeting:

a. Ray Bowick - Football
b. Gary Burnsky - Men's Basketball
c. Jack Mooneyhan - Football
d. Celeste Prince - Wife of Phil Prince
e. Robbie Chapman - Football
f. Bobbie "Snag" Williams - Football
g. Johnny Greene - Football

X. Charlie Bussey gave a short report on the Spring Gathering which was held Easter weekend, prior to the Spring Football Game. 160 golfers competed on Friday at the Walker Course and Cross Creek, and over 300 former athletes and family members attended the Friday awards dinner as well as the Saturday brunch, watching the Spring Game afterwards. All events set attendance records.

XI. In closing, Charlie Bussey expressed the thanks of the Letterwinners Association to Terry Don Phillips, Bill D'Andrea and Bert Henderson for their support of the association. According to Bussey, the success of the association and all of its events has been due to the physical and financial support of the athletic administration.
