The meeting was called to order
with a "Welcome" by President
Annie Tribble. Minutes of the
December 13, 2007 meeting were
approved as written.
3.
Terry Don Phillips and Bill
D'Andrea welcomed the board
to Clemson and congratulated
the Letterwinners Association
on having a successful Spring
Gathering.
4. Laurie Haughey reported on behalf of the nominating committee (Bob Fant - Chair, Kim Ivey and Laurie Haughey) with the following nominations for officers for 2008-09 and 2009-2010:
President: Randy Cheek
Vice-President: Emily Wood.
5. Charlie Bussey reported that the two basketball game tailgatings (Boston College and Virginia Tech) had been a big success, and plans are to continue with at least two basketball tailgatings each season.
6. Charlie Bussey told the board of the success of Spring Gathering 2008, announcing that about 158 golfers had participated in the April 11 golf tournament and 300 letterwinners and family members had attended the pre-spring game brunch. Bussey publicly expressed his thanks to Jim Davis (golf) and Patrick Sapp (flag football game) for working so hard to make the weekend a success. He stated that both had been presented plaques and that Jim Davis had been made an "honorary life member" of the Letterwinners Association.
7. It was announced that letterwinner Dick Yeary, former Clemson basketball great, had recently passed away.
8. The board, acting in its capacity as Hall of Fame Nominating Committee, nominated the following individuals for induction into the Athletic Hall of Fame:
Jim Davis - Women's Basketball Coach
Lucy Doolittle - Rowing
Angel Fleetwood - Women's Track & Field
Ruth Grodsky - Women's Swimming
Anthony Simmons - Football
Willie Underwood - Football
Itoro Umoh-Coleman - Women's Basketball
Billy Wingo - Baseball/Football
Bussey asked the group to treat the nominations confidentially until they have been approved by the Approval Committee and the individuals informed.
Incoming President, Randy Cheek and incoming Vice-President Emily Wood expressed their thanks for having been elected and told the board they anticipate having another good year and look forward to working together in the future.
The meeting was adjourned after lunch.
