Bob Mahony has been with IPTAY since 1989. A 1976 Clemson graduate with a Bachelor of Science degree in Building Construction, he began his business career in Columbia, SC with Bagnal Builders, McCory Construction and then worked with Trehel Corporation in Clemson and Hudson Construction of Seneca. He served as Associate Executive Director of IPTAY until the summer of 2008 when he moved into the position of a major gift officer for athletics.

He "walked on" to the Clemson baseball team as a right-handed pitcher in 1974, and later earned a full IPTAY scholarship from Coach Bill Wilhelm. In 1976, he was co-captain of the team that won the ACC regular season and tournament championship, and later went on to the College World Series. Mahony spent a short time in the Baltimore Orioles' organization and has continued his close contact with baseball, providing color commentary for Clemson baseball on the Clemson Tiger Sports Network since 1989.

The Major Gift Fundraising team works with the Athletic Director and head coaches to identify and prioritize the facility needs of each of the 19 varsity sports. The team then aligns those needs with prospective donors. Mahony's efforts helped IPTAY reach the $27 million goal for Phase II of the WestZone project. He is currently working on individual campaigns for baseball ($10m), golf and the WestZone Phase III. He is also responsible for assisting in the fundraising activities of Clemson's student-athletes who have moved on to compete at the professional level.

Mahony coordinated the IPTAY Representative program for 17 years. During that time, the program grew to over 600 volunteers representing all regions of the country. He revised the Representative Award program and implemented the procedure to assign a Representative to every IPTAY donor. He also coordinated the development of the IPTAY Representative website, www.iptayreps.com, that assists the Reps in tracking the activity of assigned donors, helps Reps communicate with and update information for donors through e-mail, keeps the Reps updated on their award point totals, provides a calendar of events, and provides a way for IPTAY and athletic department staff to communicate directly to Reps with any noteworthy news updates.

Mahony is the adult advisor for the Clemson University FCA Huddle and is active in the adult chapter of FCA. He is a member of Tiger Brotherhood, the Rotary Club of Clemson, the Clemson Fellowship Club, and Clemson Presbyterian Church.

In the spring of 2000, Mahony was honored when Bill and Elain Howiler endowed a pitching position in his name.

Bob and his wife Robin, a 1976 graduate of Clemson, have two daughters, Allison, a 2004 Clemson graduate, and Marion. Mahony's family has blood that runs orange. His two brothers, father, father-in-law, a sister-in-law, and two nephews hold Clemson degrees. His mother was the Tiger Brotherhood Mother-of-the-Year in 1981.
